We joined NetFlix a few months ago with the 3 out-at-a-time option. We joined because they have a great collection of old classic movies. Between the Turner Classic Movie channel and NetFlix, we see at least 4 oldies a week. We love them!
I love some of the expressions-like- “There’ll be no gutter talk here!”
Aaahh, those were the days.
Anyway, it made me think of some old 8×10 black and white pictures my husband received from his late grandfather. I pulled them out the other day and tried to figure out who these women were. It took a couple of hours to figure them out but we finally did, one gave us trouble. Their signatures are a little hard to decipher.
I “photoshopped” my husband’s grandfather’s name out of the photos after I scanned them. (I made a bit of a mess doing it but it isn’t on the original photos, thank goodness.)
The grandfather was stationed in Hollywood? Well, near there and they were able to visit the studios before they left to go to war.
See if you can figure them out.

I give up. We got the second one, Greer Garson; and the third one is Hedy Lamarr.
Who are the others?

The first one we had trouble with because the signature sure doesn’t look like Ann Sothern but it is. Her “Ann” looked like Allis or Allex, I thought.
The second one is Greer Garson.
The third one is Hedy Lamarr, I think she is the prettiest.)
The fourth one is Lana Turner. I have heard so much about her but I guess I hadn’t seen her in movies. We have some of her movies on order through Netflix.
I did photo searches for these starlets but I couldn’t find them in these exact poses, that made it harder to figure out, too.
Some of the old movies aren’t out yet on DVD.

I would have never guessed the first one as Ann Sothern. One of her “n’s” look like two “l’s” to me!
I should have gotten Lana Turner because I’m a big fan. I got thrown off because on the photo it looked like “Jones” might be her last name.
“Madame X” (1966) is one of my favorite Lana Turner movies. You will need several boxes of kleenix on hand for this one!
Another good Lana Turner movie is “Imitation of Life” (1959), which is another tear-jerker. (Sometimes we’re in the mood for a good cry!)
I found a website that lists many movies she’s been in and there’s several I haven’t seen before:
