I posted back on Tuesday about Monday evening seeing the eagles and how it looked like one of them was feeding a baby. See post here.
When we were watching the eagles a man was also watching them and remarked about some odd behavior of one eagle walking the rim of the nest. I thought that was strange too, but I figured maybe it was feeding the baby. See first photo.
A volunteer at the park on Thursday said that on the same day I took my pictures he saw the rogue immature eagles attacking the nest. Do eagles do that? I wonder if he was sure they were eagles. I couldn’t find anything on the internet about eagles attacking another eagle’s nest.
These are some of my first pictures with my new camera. I checked my photo properties to see what time I had taken the photos. It was Monday at 6:40 PM. ( I accidently had my camera settings set to AM instead of PM which caused the date to be advanced by 12 hours.)
We went back twice since Monday to find no activity at all around the nest. Now I believe the piece the eagle had in his mouth was an egg shell. The following are the other pictures I took Monday evening, the last time we saw the eagles. The one eagle was pacing around the perimeter of the nest the last time we saw it. I’m heart broken that the eagles are gone. I really looked forward to stopping and watching them.

I think I’d heard of Osprey snatching unguarded eaglets but not eagles. I feel bad too. I was looking forward to the pictures you would share. Sorry Linda.

So sorry to hear! You know on that Saturday we observed an immature eagle flying around the area! Wonder if it was the same bird?

It looks like the eagles have returned to the nest area but there are no more eggs and no eaglets. There are pictures of the immatures attacking the nest and also it is said a raccoon was bothering it also. Maybe next year. At least we can still watch the eagles.
