The Moosie and the Moose

June 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Before heading out to the racetrack for dinner with my in-laws I decided to check on where my old cat was (he’s the problem cat.) I found Moosie in the arms of the stuffed moose up in the TV room. It was just so cute I had to take a picture. I guess even old cats feel the need to be held.

2 Steps Forward, One Back

June 16th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I’m doing my spring cleaning……at little late this year. Today I took everything out of the refrigerator and wiped it off with disinfectant wipes, checked sell-by’s. I took out every shelf, inside outside…it’s sterile. Microwave, toaster oven..check. I even steam cleaned the kitchen rug.

Two days ago I cleaned the front porch and took cleaner to the 3 rockers out there. The front porch was spotless. I bought two really large hanging baskets to add to the sides of my front porch and accent the smaller pink and purple flower baskets. I planted several deep-purple petunias in them and hung them up.

I went out to get the mail tonight and what a shock. One of the big baskets was on the porch floor with dirt everywhere and my petunias crushed in the mess. It looks like the chain broke. I bought this deep 16″ basket at Home Depot just a few days ago. You’d think it would have a chain that would be able to hold the potting soil and some flowers. I’m mad. I had to leave the mess for tomorrow because it’s dark. I just hope it doesn’t rain and turn all that soil into mud.

The Prize (pic)

June 12th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I tossed and turned and went back to sleep. An extra hour of sleep felt good. I finally opened the upstairs door to be greeted by our three cats on the landing, all with a “what took you so long!” look on their faces. Then, the one I call, “skinny tail” (only because the others have fluffly tails) presented me with his prize. He knows. He knows he did good and is so proud of it. He dropped the mouse and rolled over on his side.

I’m wondering if the banging I heard in the middle of the night was the garbage men (it was garbage night in our neighborhood) or the cat chasing the mouse. He usually knocks things over in his chase.

I’m not proud to admit we had a mouse, most people would keep that quiet, but I’m very proud of this particular cat. I don’t like admitting I have a favorite, but he is my favorite cat. He’s spunky, he follows me around and sleeps at my feet when I’m on the computer. He is very much a dog except for his ability to catch mice. What makes it more admirable is that he has no front claws to catch mice with. He’s just so lightning fast. I’m sure the other two cats watched him from the sidelines with admiration. It was probably like watching Sidney Crosby work the puck down ice. The mouse didn’t have a chance. Note: The Russian Blue color of the cat is a nice way of saying, mousy gray. The color is identical!
